Under a year ago I had just returned from Los Angeles, freshly inspired to create. Ready to let go from any sort of boundaries I had subconsciously placed on myself.
I don’t know why it happened, but I know it went like this. I sat down, came up with a simple melody constructed from a Suitcase V2 Phaser. Then the drums came in, the piano, the bass, the strings, even the guitar (which I was a little iffy about but it felt natural to include). By the end of it all, I had created an abundance of specks. Highlighting their greatest interpretations of the track that the phaser and beat had created. I gave them total control in taking the song further, where it ultimately needed to go. Only where each respective instrument could take it.
I had always wanted to create a track that functioned on this premise. The phaser starts us out with something simple enough, we think we’ve got it figured out. We travel as the phaser, the beat is our guide. Then we’re taken on a journey through these beautiful elements of music coming together to create a melody of multitudes, an infinite tale.
Each speck is just as important, no matter the extent of their influence. Their presence is what matters here.
I’m very happy to announce the re-release of All Specks, one of my favourites thus far.
